TRANSLATION SERVICES
The UNI EN ISO 17100:2017 standard sets out the requirements for professional translation services. Knowing a language is obviously not enough to ensure quality translations. This international standard sets out criteria that language service providers must abide by.

  • Expertise: the experience and qualifications of each professional must be continuously verified to ensure accurate, high-quality translations
  • Process: each project must follow specific procedures, including client needs identification, translation, revision (comparing the source and target texts, ensuring the content and meaning are the same, checking TMs/glossaries/reference materials, and doing a grammar and spelling check), quality assurance, and delivery. The goal is to ensure a consistent, controlled, and well-structured translation process
  • Data security and confidentiality: sensitive information that may emerge during the translation process must be protected

INTERPRETING SERVICES
UNI 10574:2007 is the Italian standard that sets out the requirements for effective, high-quality professional interpreting services (simultaneous, consecutive, whispered, and liaison).

  • Expertise: this standard establishes language proficiency and interpreting requirements
  • Ethics and professionalism: interpreters must meet all ethical and professional standards, ensure confidentiality, remain neutral, and avoid bias when interpreting
  • Quality assurance: this standard requires interpreting services to be continuously assessed and monitored based on specific metrics to identify and address any nonconformity
