machine translation post-editing

Human intelligence meets machine translation

The solution for urgent translation projects with large amounts of text

automatic translation and post-editing

Minimal or complete post-editing to cut costs and save time

Machine translation can be of great assistance when – in order to gain access to new markets ahead of the competition – you need to translate and process large volumes of text. Although today’s automatic translation has made huge advances, post-editing is essential for ensuring that the text pre-translated by the artificial intelligence system is accurate and understandable.

Not every language combination and not every type of text is well-suited for automatic translation. Our translators evaluate each project to see whether artificial intelligence could be implemented and, if so, prepare the text for machine translation; in the case of complete post-editing, they also revise it once it has been translated.

STUDIO TRE offers two types of machine translation post-editing services, which are performed using specific artificial intelligence software selected to ensure that data remains strictly confidential:

Minimal post-editing (also known as light post-editing) is recommended only for internal documents intended for use as reference materials (not for distribution) or for content with an extremely tight deadline, as there is no revision by a native-speaker post-editor and the software is not capable of recognising interpretation errors or making knowledgeable stylistic choices and does not guarantee proper grammar or spelling, terminological consistency or full correspondence between the source and target texts

Complete post-editing (also known as full post-editing) consists of a pre-translation carried out by machine translation software in combination with the client’s translation memories and revised by a specialised native-speaker post-editor.

Complete post-editing is recommended for large quantities of text that need to be translated urgently and do not have specific form or style requirements. The final text, suitable for its intended use, is correct in terms of grammar, syntax and spelling, is terminologically consistent, and its format also matches that of the source text.

Machine translation is not well-suited for text that calls for impeccable style, a tone of voice adapted for a specific target or which is, by nature, the product of creative writing.

Indeed, machine translation algorithms are not capable of understanding a language’s characteristic ambiguities, such as the ability to express the same concept using different words or phrases depending on the objective, context and target audience.

Artificial intelligence software processes each phrase individually, for which reason it is an excellent option for text with a high number of repetitions and/or sentences with a simple and standard structure:

Working with our specialised translators – who, in addition to language skills, possess in-depth knowledge of different types of technical language and of the specific conventions of all of the various types of texts – we offer a machine translation post-editing service that guarantees:
